A total of $14 million has been raised for an expansion, exceeding the $11.5 million goal. Funding will add three galleries - works of art on paper, ceramics, and American modern painting - as well as the Target Studio for Creative Collaboration. Exhibitions and programs focused on democracy and citizenship were presented, including "By the People, for the People: New Deal Art." More than 150,000 visitors enjoyed free admission in 2009.
